To try and be independent, self-sufficient and unbound are three important cornerstones of the modern nomadic lifestyle. I am trying to live my life in such a way that my footprint on this planet is only very minimal. I’m also very interested in leading a life in which working and the freedom to travel our beautiful world are at the very least a 50/50 affair. One of the best ways to do this is to live the #Vanlife lifestyle, this means my classic Renault daily driver doubles as my tiny home and office on wheels. It is a minimalist’s life because everything I own has to fit within the 5m2 living space in the back of my old van. A small kitchen block, a little desk/table, a folding chair, a bed, and a toilet are all the homely comforts one needs in their campervan. A wish to be liberated from the 9 to 5 does perhaps mean to sacrifice the normalities and comforts of a house, yet, if done right one does not have to sacrifice the comforts of home. The payoff is a life free of monthly rent or mortgage payments, financial freedom that means you only work for the things you require or really want; food, petrol, clothes and in my case photo gear and a mobile internet connection. Just imagine the freedom to live wherever one feels they might want to wake up the next morning! One day might be spent waking up on the shores of a mountain lake in Slovenia, hiking through the woods and photographing the splendid nature in which you are submerged. Another day could bring you the Portuguese sun over the Atlantic Ocean, there is no ending to the number of adventures that can be had.
